_ Inside Wiring, Service Line & Jacks: Your
DSL shares a standard telephone line with one that is already in service. Only one telephone line is needed so that you
can now talk on the telephone and be on the internet at the same time. We need to do an on-site survey to determine
how to install the filters so that both the telephone and the DSL equipment
will operate together. This in a
necessary part of all installations and is done prior to installing the modem at
no additional cost.
_ Equipment: A DSL
modem is a separate and necessary part of the high-speed internet service. This modem can be either rented or purchased
from Wisconsin Internet Net service. A
monthly modem lease at $5.00 per month or a system qualified modem may be
purchased for $120.00 on a one time basis.
Leased modems are owned, maintained and warranted by Wisconsin Internet
Net service. Purchase modems come with a
30 day warranty.
_ Modem
Connector: You need a NIC (Network Interface Card)
to allow the connection on your computer to accept the high-speed modem
connection. If your computer does not
have a NIC card or connection, it can be purchased for $25.00 or less at most
places that computer hardware is sold.
This card fits in one of your vacant computer card slots and comes with
self installation directions.
_ Security
Issues: (Hardware) You
can purchase a router (not a hub) to connect to your computer. Then plug the high-speed modem, and any other
computers at your premise into the router.
The router will not only act as a Atraffic cop@ but will also assist in the prevention of
unauthorized entries or attacks on your computer while you are online. Routers come in many sizes, capacities and
prices.
_ Risks & Your Responsibilities: Wisconsin
Internet Net service offers services and support to protect your connection
from viruses, attacks and other problems brought on by the internet. However, you are responsible for protecting
your system by using hardware and software that will guard your computer or
computer network from unauthorized entries & use.
_ Trouble Shooting your new DSL Service: If
you have DSL problems with the
connection equipment (DSL Modem/Router, Ethernet Switch, or Hub), and you
can not access the internet (WAN) from your computer, try an
equipment power down of the (DSL Modem/Router) by turning off the power
switch (10 Seconds) and back on again.
It is located on the rear of the DSL Modem/Router. If you provide associated equipment in your
Local Area Network (LAN), you should power it down and turn it back on to
reset the connections. If your
problem persists, disconnect modular plug that connects the DSL
Modem/Router to your computer or LAN. Turn power off again to reset the DSL
Modem/Router, reconnect the modular plug and then watch for the WAN & LAN
Link lights on the modem. Steady
green link lights are normal and indicate ready to connect mode. Page 2 Revised 3/09/04
